Scale outward — far outward — and the same pattern appears at the largest structures in the known universe. Spiral galaxies, including our own Milky Way, rotate in arms whose spacing follows logarithmic spirals governed by φ. Why Does This Exist?
This is the question that has consumed mathematicians and physicists and philosophers for centuries. Why does a number sequence generated by the simplest possible rule — add the last two numbers — appear at every scale of the physical universe? There are several scientific explanations, none of them fully satisfying on their own.
The most accepted scientific answer is this: the Golden Ratio represents the most efficient packing and growth pattern physically possible. A sunflower arranges its seeds in Fibonacci spirals because that arrangement allows the maximum number of seeds to fit in the available space.
